Swim Into Beauty: June Glam Bag from Ipsy

This month the theme inspiration for the Ipsy Glam Bag was mermaids and "swim into beauty."  Based on that I'm pretty disappointed in the bag.  You can't see it very well in the photo because it was ugly and I was trying to hide it, but it is black spandex with "ipsy" embossed across the front numerous times.  :-/  It got soaked straight through in an instant when the corner touched a puddle during pictures.  You would think with a mermaid theme the bag would at least we waterproof.

There's so many ways they could've gone with this:

• Clear waterproof bag that can also protect your electronics.
• Black rubber bag like an inner tube.
• Even the black spandex (reminiscent of SCUBA suits) but WITHOUT "ipsy" emblazoned all over it.

The reason I chose Ipsy over other beauty boxes was the $10 a month was worth it just for the bags, in my opinion.  Because the bags were cute and functional and even if they weren't my style, could be used as adorable gift bags.  This one is pretty worthless.  Anything with a brand name all over it just instantly looks like cheap promotional material, and thats definitely not something I'm going to gift to someone.

I'm going to turn this disappointment into a pencil bag for work and look forward to the next one.

As far as the contents went, I'm pretty "meh."  I was excited for the turquoise pencil but then I got a Marcelle pencil in "Blue Lagoon" in my Birchbox and I like it better than this one.  The Marcelle stays ALL DAY LONG and goes on so smooth because it's mroe crayon than pencil.  The OFRA pencil is an actual pencil that needs sharpened and I jsut find those tug at my delicate eyelid more, also it doesn't seem to have much staying power.

I have lots of pink nail polishes, though I may try Power Source just because I'm curious about all the hype around Formula X polishes.

The Trestique mini shadow would've been great in the pink or gold colors but I got a dark brown and I'm not sure if that will work out or not.

I was hoping that I would get the Too Faced liquid lipstick this round since I didn't get it last time we were guaranteed either it or the Smashbox primer and my skin is so dry I can't use anything "oil free."  But alas, I got the useless primer.  Oh well, it will go in my ever-growing pile of stuff eligible for swaps!

I may try the body butter but I'm not a huge vanilla fan so depending on how strong it on my skin will determine whether I keep it.

This bag was a bust this month but still worth the mere $10 because I can gift the contents and I was needing a beater bag for work.
